Tyrone-Ch. Whimsy’s Pipsissewa, 8/2/97-7/27/10
 Tyrone
He came from the Monika x Griffin “wildflower” litter, so he was Maurice’s nephew, and the two of them formed a wonderful pair. Tyrone was the “muscle” and Maurice was (is) the “brain”. Together they were unstoppable. Tyrone drew admiration for his blond bombshell gorgeousness and was always the “People’s Choice” when approached out strolling the neighbourhood. One touch of those velvet ears was all it took.
His beauty served him well in the show ring, but his powerful athleticism surfaced in the hunt. He was keen, very keen, for small game. Maurice and he quickly made short work of any rodent that made the mistake of straying into our yard. They were the scourges of squirrels all over Seattle, hunting like velociraptors, even on leashes, with a ridiculously high body count.
At home he was the perfect gentleman, he sang out his name–”roh-roh” with joy, and loved nothing more than to flop down on the cushions surrounded by family. I have unending gratitude for Mary and Chris Downing, who entrusted me with this lovely dog.
He was blond and beautiful, every day of his life. I loved him then and now.
Please visit his photo gallery.
Fondly, Annie Jacobs

The Sunday votes won. We will have our practice Sunday, same time, same place. For those of you who are coming for the first time, signup is at 11:00 at the Cascade Family Fliers field. It looks like in terms of weather, Sunday is also going to be the better choice.
Practices will continue to be located at the new field south of Snohomish: http://www.cascadefamilyflyers.com/location.html. One last thing, my phone number is 425-293-3776. Please don’t use the number on the Cascade Family Fliers website. That goes directly to the field owner, Mark. I’m quite active on my computer. If you e-mail me with questions, almost for sure, I will be back to you with a day if not sooner.
I am working on the practice schedule for June and July and will let everybody know in a couple of days.

5/20 UPDATE: the 5/22 practice is rescheduled to Sunday, 5/23. Same time, same place, see info below.
There will be practice this coming Sunday – same time 11:00 and same place Cascade Family Fliers Field (see below for info). The following Saturday the 22nd Sunday the 23rd will be the last practice in May. Please be sure to check your e-mail prior to coming out to the field. If there is a cancellation, it will be sent out by 9:00 latest same day as practice.
I hate to belabor the point, but we had three loose dogs at last week’s practice and one that took forever to catch. Folks, we have to get a grip on losing our dogs. It can create a very dangerous situation. Please come prepared to have your dogs confined except when coursing or cooling down. If you have a new dog that you feel needs to spend some time watching dogs chase the bunny bag, please let me know ahead of time so I can help you do it in from a safe position. And finally, if your dog does not have good recall and it takes us a half an hour to catch after running the lure, please don’t bring it to practice. It can be very dangerous for the dog – even tho we are a ways from the main road, we all know how fast sighthounds can cover distance – and it’s very frustrating for the rest of the participants waiting for their turn.

At the BWC WRA in North Carolina our Peggy Sue finished in the top ten out of over 40 whippets for her FTE in straights. And Sunday’s NOTRA in Indiana, after a night long drive, Shadow Run Peggy Sue made it to the last High Point race where she ended up the only unfinished whippet and won the third place spot out of over 30 entries and 3 ORC Ponts. Her first.
We are so proud of her and her new owners the Daileys of Tennessee

The 9th annual Northwest Versatility Weekend, hosted this year by WWWA, will be held at the Roy Polo Field over Memorial Day weekend, May 29-31, 2010.
This event is a showcase of the versatility of our wonderful whippets and the other sighthound breeds, and there will be something for everyone!
- Saturday is straight racing – NAWRA for whippets and LGRA and ISWS for other breeds.
- Sunday is all-breed NOTRA oval racing, followed by a conformation match. We’ll have a special class just for Versatility entrants, but also classes for young puppies, adults and veterans, so bring out your youngsters for training and your oldsters to revel in the fun. ILPs and spayed/neutered hounds welcome! Our judge is Barbara Turpin “Of Course” from Vancouver, BC.
- Monday is ASFA lure coursing. We will offer certification run before the trial!
- At the end of the day on Monday, Versatility awards will be conferred to the top ranked hound in each breed who completes all four events.
- Other fun stuff: a silent auction, brown bag auction, 50/50 raffle, potluck lunches with prizes for best dish, breakfast on Sunday morning, vendors, and plenty of practice opportunities.
We need volunteers to help with a wide variety of jobs. You don’t have to be an expert to help out! We would love to help you learn the ropes, and there are plenty of non-running-related duties to help with.
For all the details, please download the premium list. Word versions of the entry forms (race, match, ASFA) are also available. Direct any questions to Beth Levine at serendipitywhippets@gmail.com.
I wanted to do a little braggin for WRAG. We had a wonderful weekend a few weeks ago with lots of sunshine and great dogs and people who brought them to race. We had a a fantastic lunch table that looked like a food fest from a fancy resturant. And a marshmellow cookin’ contest at the bonfire Saturday night, that Randy Swan won. Attending was the youngest whippet and the oldest whippet and I am including a photo from that run. Doris Hillen provided all our ribbons at the age of 85, and she is still out there loading whippets in the starting box’s.
The local folks from Washington, Oregon made up for most of the entries but we made new friends (The Jones’) from San Diego, CA that made our event even more special. Our vet Dr. Carl Conroy from Mid Columbia Veterinary Clinic came to see just what all these whippets that come into his clinic do. He was so impressed with all the wonderful whippets, and dedicated dog people it has made a difference in his attitude toward the “Whippet Athlete”. His last statement before he left was. “Boy those dogs are fast”.
Oh, and Glen and I have a special brag… Our Shadow Run Marco is a new ORC as of Saturday when he tied for 1st place with his brother Kelp, with OB in the third place position and DJ in 4th
Our next Double NOTRA is June 5th & 6th and we want to extend an invitation to our friends in WWWA to come on over to the land of sunshine, and have fun with us.
