For those of you who attended practice on April 11, I’ve uploaded the photos taken and generously supplied to the club by David LeBlanc. This was David’s first experience photographing dogs running the lure, and he got some really great shots! Many photos are out of focus or with the dog not centered in the frame, but as we know it is not easy to get good photos of running dogs and I think he did great for his first time! Thank you David for your time and generosity!

There are over 500 photos. I did not have time to go through and weed out the “outtakes” or do any photo processing so these are more or less how they came off the camera, except that I ran a batch process to reduce the file size since each photo was originally in excess of 5MB!

Feel free to save copies on your own computer. To do this, click on each thumbnail to see the larger view, then right click on the photo and save to your own computer. As I said, I did reduce the file size and resolution to post these online, but I do have all the original photos on CD, so if you need a high resolution original, please feel free to email me; be sure to identify the photos you want by number (hold your mouse over the thumbnail to view the number).

If you use these photos in advertising or on your websites, I’m sure David would appreciate the courtesy of a photo credit.

Feel free to pass the gallery link along to anybody who was at practice or who might be interested.

We have a new field that we are going to try out for practices. It is located about two miles south of the eastern edge of downtown Snohomish. I’ve placed the Cascade Family Fliers link below. Click on “location” for a very good map on how to get there. There is signage at the turnoff of the main road. The road becomes dirt/gravel and goes under the railroad tressle. It is a large field, about 50 acres that is used primarily for haying which is done three times a summer. However, a wide strip the length of the front of the field is kept mowed for a model airplane club usage and an adjacent side is also kept mowed for the owner’s private landing strip. We will be using the landing strip when the model airplane fliers are there. We will talk to the hay farmer around mowing time to see if we can use the whole field after mowing for some actual course work and maybe certifications.

The strip is quite long. David estimates over 200 yards, the owner will mow a couple of days prior to practices, and it is relatively level. The field is partially fenced with a very large creek/ditch on two sides. We may, from time to time, be there simultaneously with the model airplane fliers but the group in Richmond does this all the time and has had no problems with the dogs.

Signup and practice begin at 11:00. Late arrivals will be added to the bottom of the board. While we strive to have at least two runs per dog, if we are working down the second draw it is possible that late arrivals will get only the one run. One other really nice point, with the length of the field, those of us who are conditioning our dogs for race meets, we can opt to do back-to-back runs. Please be sure to let the signup people know if this is what you want.

Here’s the website addy so you can see some of the field http://www.cascadefamilyflyers.com/location.html

I had intended to include this information in the Nov/Dec newsletter issue, and for various reasons, I’ve run very late on getting that issue out.

Well the weather outside is frightful but luckily my power was only out overnight so I can spend the weekend inside, warm and cozy, working on the WWWA website!

I upgraded WordPress itself as well as the website’s theme to their new versions, and both upgrades offer many enhancements. You’ll notice lots of new graphics which add discrete but fun splashes of color to the site, as well as uniform link colors throughout, and a newly customized menu bar at the top of the page which will hopefully stand out a bit more than the old one.

I also made three new header images that display randomly at the top of each page: one featuring lure coursing photos, one for puppies, and one with whippets playing in the snow (don’t know why, it just seemed somehow appropriate!). The whippets featured in these headers all belong to WWWA club members. WWWA members, feel free to send more images in any of these categories – there is no rule that says we can’t have more than one header for each category!
