I completely forgot about the year-end annual reports we’ve had for members the last few years, until I got one from Jo yesterday and it reminded me! Thanks Jo! In any event, now is the time to submit your annual reports for the WWWA website! Please send me a write-up of your activities and achievements in 2010. There is no charge, no limit on how much copy, and as many photos as you would like to submit with your report will be gladly accepted. Even if you think you didn’t accomplish anything big, or your dogs are mostly retired stay-at-homes, please share the highs (and lows) of your year with your whippets. There is technically no deadline, but in order to keep this slightly more timely and not have 2010 reports dribbling in late into 2011, lets try to get these submitted to me by the end of January. But if you miss the “deadline” no worries, I’ll publish it whenever I get it. I’m also getting really bored with the current design of the website, which served its purpose as a nice transitional design from the old site to the new one, but I’m itching to try something different.

Since the winter months are pretty slow, I’ll be working on a new design over the next few weeks. There really shouldn’t be any downtime on the site, but don’t be surprised if you visit it one day to find it looks different.

Also, I know this is very long overdue and I’m sorry it has taken me so long to accomplish this, but I will finally be working on the members-only section so we can move the club business stuff from the public site into a password protected area. Expect to hear more details from me in the coming weeks about that.

Hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and safe and happy New Year. All the best to our WWWA friends in 2011!

The following weekend, the 23rd and 24th, the Ridgeback club is putting on an ASFA trial and the Region 1 invitational. To enter the Region 1 invitational, your sighthound must have earned at least one point previously in an ASFA trial. The two Roy trials and the RR trial on Saturday give three opportunities to obtain the necessary points to enter the Region 1 trial. Certification runs will be offered before the trial on Saturday but will be limited to six. If you want to do a certification run you’ll need to notify the secretary soonest, and also provide a by-dog. Go to http://www.asfaregion1.com/2010/NWRRC1010.pdf for the premium.

For those of you into racing, as far as I know, there will be a double header NOTRA at the Sowards in Goldendale at the end of the month. There is also a NAWRA/NOTRA meet in Oregon the same weekend as the Region 1.

For those of you who attended practice on April 11, I’ve uploaded the photos taken and generously supplied to the club by David LeBlanc. This was David’s first experience photographing dogs running the lure, and he got some really great shots! Many photos are out of focus or with the dog not centered in the frame, but as we know it is not easy to get good photos of running dogs and I think he did great for his first time! Thank you David for your time and generosity! There are over 500 photos. I did not have time to go through and weed out the “outtakes” or do any photo processing so these are more or less how they came off the camera, except that I ran a batch process to reduce the file size since each photo was originally in excess of 5MB!

We have a new field that we are going to try out for practices. It is located about two miles south of the eastern edge of downtown Snohomish. I’ve placed the Cascade Family Fliers link below. Click on “location” for a very good map on how to get there. There is signage at the turnoff of the main road. The road becomes dirt/gravel and goes under the railroad tressle. It is a large field, about 50 acres that is used primarily for haying which is done three times a summer. However, a wide strip the length of the front of the field is kept mowed for a model airplane club usage and an adjacent side is also kept mowed for the owner’s private landing strip. We will be using the landing strip when the model airplane fliers are there. We will talk to the hay farmer around mowing time to see if we can use the whole field after mowing for some actual course work and maybe certifications.

The strip is quite long. David estimates over 200 yards, the owner will mow a couple of days prior to practices, and it is relatively level. The field is partially fenced with a very large creek/ditch on two sides. We may, from time to time, be there simultaneously with the model airplane fliers but the group in Richmond does this all the time and has had no problems with the dogs.

Signup and practice begin at 11:00. Late arrivals will be added to the bottom of the board. While we strive to have at least two runs per dog, if we are working down the second draw it is possible that late arrivals will get only the one run. One other really nice point, with the length of the field, those of us who are conditioning our dogs for race meets, we can opt to do back-to-back runs. Please be sure to let the signup people know if this is what you want.

Here’s the website addy so you can see some of the field http://www.cascadefamilyflyers.com/location.html
