2021 Northwest Versatility Weekend

After being forced to cancel the 2020 Versatility Weekend because of the COVID-19 pandemic, WWWA is very happy to bring you the 20th annual Northwest Versatility Weekend, co-hosted by WWWA and SWEPT, at the Tacoma Polo Club field in Roy, WA over Memorial Day weekend, May 29-31, 2021. This event is a showcase of the versatility of our wonderful whippets and the other sighthound breeds, with performance events for everyone! This year we are offering AOK9 racing and welcome non-sighthound breeds and mixes to join the fun for the first time!

This year WWWA and SWEPT will team up to host the racing events on Saturday and Sunday, and the Monday ASFA trial will be hosted by SWEPT. Versatility awards will be awarded based on overall performance over the three events.

Note that because Pierce County has been rolled back to Phase 2, in order to promote physical distancing and meet COVID safety requirements, whippets will be racing under AOK9 rules instead of WRA and NOTRA to reduce congestion at the start and finish. We will use a hand-slipped start instead of boxes for all breeds. For the race meets, early entries only, no day-of entries accepted (day-of entries will be accepted for the ASFA). See additional COVID guidelines in the PDF Premium List.

  • Saturday is straight racing – AOK9 for whippets, non-sighthounds and mixed breeds, and LGRA for LGRA-eligible sighthounds.

  • Sunday is oval racing - AOK9 for whippets, non-sighthounds and mixed breeds, and NOTRA for all other NOTRA eligible sighthounds (excluding whippets).

  • Monday is ASFA lure coursing, with judge Beth Levine of Monroe, WA. At the end of the day on Monday, Versatility awards will be conferred to the top ranked hound in each sighthound breed who completes all three events.

  • Practice opportunities will be available between programs and after the meet on Saturday and Sunday as time, weather and volunteers permit. Sorry, no practice available on Monday.

We need volunteers to help with a wide variety of jobs. You don’t have to be an expert to help out! We would love to help you learn the ropes, and there are plenty of non-running-related duties to help with.

Premium list, entry forms and more information about the Versatility Weekend can be found on the event page.
